• The Tailor in Heaven

    Grimm's Fairy Tales
Up in the clouds, where everything sparkles, lived a kind gatekeeper named Saint Peter. One sunny afternoon, a little tailor arrived at the big, shiny gates of Heaven. He had been a good tailor on Earth, always making neat stitches.

"Hello!" said the tailor, looking around amazed. Everything was so bright and peaceful.

Saint Peter smiled warmly. "Welcome! You've done good work down there. Come on in!"

Saint Peter led the tailor inside. Heaven was even more wonderful up close. There were soft clouds to sit on and happy people singing. Saint Peter showed the tailor a lovely, comfortable chair just for him.

"You can rest here and enjoy Heaven," Peter said kindly. "But there's one rule. See that big, golden chair way over there? That's the Lord's special chair. It's where He sits to see everything happening in the world. Please, whatever you do, don't sit in that chair."

"Oh, I promise I won't!" said the tailor, happy just to be there.

For a while, the tailor sat quietly, enjoying the peace. But then, the Lord and Saint Peter went for a walk to check on some stars. The tailor was left all alone. He looked at his nice chair. Then he looked at the big, shiny, golden chair.

"Hmm," he thought. "I wonder what it's like to see everything? Just for a tiny moment? No one would know..."

His curiosity tickled him like a loose thread. He tiptoed over to the magnificent golden chair. It felt very grand. Carefully, he climbed up and sat down.

Wow! It was amazing! From the golden chair, he could see the whole Earth spread out below him like a giant, colorful quilt. He saw mountains and oceans, towns and forests. He saw tiny people walking and working.

Then, his sharp tailor's eyes spotted something by a river. An old woman was washing clothes. But while she scrubbed, she quickly, sneakily, tucked two small pieces of yarn into her pocket!

"Hey!" thought the tailor, forgetting where he was. "That's not right! She's stealing that yarn!"

He felt very cross. He looked around and saw the Lord's golden footstool next to the chair. Without thinking properly, he grabbed the footstool. It felt surprisingly light in his hands.

"I'll teach her!" he muttered, and WHOOSH! He threw the golden footstool down, down, down towards the Earth, aiming right for the sneaky woman. Of course, he missed, and the footstool tumbled away.

Just then, the Lord and Saint Peter came back from their walk. The Lord looked towards His golden chair and noticed His footstool was gone. He knew everything, so He knew exactly who had been sitting there.

He looked calmly at the little tailor, who was trying very hard to look like he hadn't moved.

"Little tailor," the Lord said, His voice gentle but firm. "Were you sitting in my chair?"

The tailor felt his cheeks get hot. He nodded slowly. "Yes," he whispered.

"And did you see the woman by the river?" the Lord asked.

    The tailor nodded again.

"And did you throw my golden footstool at her?"

The tailor gulped. "Yes," he admitted, feeling very silly now.

The Lord sighed. "Little tailor, judging people and throwing things is my job, not yours. And I asked you not to sit in my chair. Heaven is a place for those who listen and are gentle. I'm afraid you can't stay here right now."

And just like that, the little tailor found himself gently floating outside the shiny gates of Heaven. He learned that day that even in the most wonderful place, it's always best to follow the rules and not meddle in things that aren't your business, especially when you're sitting in someone else's very special chair!
