• The Glass Coffin

    Grimm's Fairy Tales
Let me tell you about a young tailor named Pip. Pip was a cheerful fellow, always humming as he stitched. One day, he decided to take a walk in the big, green forest. But oh dear, the forest was bigger than he thought! Soon, the trees all looked the same, and Pip realized he was quite lost.

As the sky grew dark, Pip saw a tiny light twinkling. "Hooray!" he thought, and hurried towards it. He found a small, cozy hut. Inside, an old man with a long white beard sat by a warm fire.

Suddenly, there was a scuffle outside! A big stag with pointy antlers was fighting a gentle doe. The stag won, and the doe ran away. The old man looked very sad.

The old man kindly offered Pip a place to sleep. The next morning, he gave Pip a tiny, shiny key. "Take this," he said. "Walk until you find a big grey rock. Behind it, you'll find a cave. This key will help you."

Pip thanked the old man and set off. He found the rock, and sure enough, there was a dark cave. Inside, Pip’s eyes grew wide. There was a beautiful girl sleeping in a coffin made entirely of clear, sparkling glass! She looked like a princess.

Next to the glass coffin were two small boxes. One had a picture of a grand castle on it. The other had a picture of the sleeping girl.

Pip gently touched the glass. The girl’s eyes fluttered open! "Oh, thank you!" she whispered. "A wicked sorcerer put a spell on me. He turned my brother into that stag you saw, and my beautiful castle and all my friends into this cave and those boxes."

"But your key!" she exclaimed. "That's the magic key to break the spell!"

Pip carefully used the key on the box with the castle picture. WHOOSH! The dark cave shimmered and changed. Suddenly, they were standing in a magnificent castle! The glass coffin was gone, and so were the boxes.

A handsome young man ran towards them. "Sister!" he cried. It was her brother, no longer a stag! Everyone who had been enchanted was now free and happy.

The princess, whose name was Lily, was so grateful to Pip. They became the best of friends, and soon, they decided to get married. Pip, the tailor who got lost in the woods, lived happily ever after with Princess Lily in her wonderful castle.
