The Three Apprentices
Grimm's Fairy Tales
Let me tell you about three friends. These weren't just any friends; they were clever young men who had just finished learning their jobs. One was a super speedy barber, another a fantastic blacksmith, and the third a very careful tailor. "Let's go see the world!" they said, and off they went, promising to stick together.
They walked and walked, sharing stories and laughing. But soon, their pockets felt a bit light. "Oh dear," said the barber, "our money is nearly all gone!"
"We need to find some work," said the blacksmith, looking around.
Just then, they saw a big sign outside a grand castle. It read: "WANTED: People with Amazing Skills! Great Rewards!"
"That's us!" cried the tailor.
They went to the castle, and the King himself greeted them. "I need some very special tasks done," he boomed. "Can you help?"
First, the King pointed to a field. "See that rabbit hopping over there? It's the fastest rabbit in the kingdom! I need someone to give it a quick shave while it's running, without it even noticing!"
The barber grinned. "I can do that!" He grabbed his sharpest, gentlest razor. Zoom! The rabbit dashed by. Snip, snip, buzz! Before the rabbit even knew it, its whiskers were perfectly trimmed, and it hopped away looking very smart. The King clapped!
Next, the King led them to a stable. "My fastest horse needs new shoes," he said, "but it never stands still! Can one of you put new shoes on it while it's galloping around the yard?"
The blacksmith smiled. "Leave it to me!" He heated up his metal and got his hammer ready. Clomp, clomp, clomp! The speedy horse galloped past. Clang, bang, tap! Sam quickly made tiny, shiny horseshoes. With a few swift moves, the horse had new shoes and didn't even miss a step! The King cheered!
Finally, the King whispered, "I was trying to take a nap, but a tiny, annoying fly keeps buzzing around my nose. Can someone get rid of it without waking me if I fall asleep?" He then sat on his throne and pretended to doze off.
The tailor tiptoed forward. He saw a little fly buzzing near the King’s nose. The King started to snore softly. With a feather-light touch and a tiny, perfectly aimed puff of air from a small fan he quickly made, *swoosh*, the tailor gently guided the fly out the window. The King snored on, happy as could be. When he "woke up," he was amazed!
"Wonderful!" exclaimed the King. "You three are truly skilled!" He gave them each a bag full of shiny gold coins.
The three friends thanked the King. With their pockets full again, they were very happy. They had learned that working together and using their special talents could solve any problem. And so, the barber, the blacksmith, and the tailor continued their adventures, always ready to help and always remembering their amazing day at the King's castle.
