The Story of the Sun
Andersen's Fairy Tales
In a cozy little room, a young man wasn't feeling very well. He had to stay in bed most of the day, and his window was his main view of the world outside. But he had a very special friend who visited him every day: the Sun!
Now, this Sun wasn't just any big ball of fire. Oh no! This Sun was a fantastic storyteller. Each morning, as its golden rays peeked through the window, it would begin to share its adventures.
"Good morning!" the Sun would beam, though it didn't use words you could hear with your ears. The young man felt its warmth and saw its light, and somehow, he understood.
"Guess what I saw today?" the Sun would seem to say. And then, it would paint pictures for him with its light.
One day, the Sun told him about far-off sandy deserts where tall camels with long eyelashes walked slowly, carrying spices and silks. The young man could almost feel the hot sand and smell the sweet perfumes.
Another day, the Sun described icy lands where fluffy white polar bears played on slippery ice, and brave little penguins waddled in a line. He shivered a tiny bit, imagining the cold, crisp air.
The Sun showed him deep blue oceans where playful dolphins leaped out of the water, their skin glistening. It told him about colorful fish swimming through coral castles. The young man imagined he was swimming right alongside them!
It whispered tales of green jungles, full of chattering monkeys swinging from tree to tree, and bright parrots calling out. He could almost hear the rustle of leaves and the chirping of strange birds.
The Sun also shared stories of busy cities with tall buildings, and quiet countrysides where flowers bloomed in every color imaginable. It showed him children laughing as they played tag in sunny parks, and farmers carefully tending their green fields.
Every day, the young man looked forward to the Sun's visit. His small room didn't feel so small anymore. It felt like the whole wide world was coming to say hello. He would smile, and his eyes would sparkle, even though he was tired. The Sun's stories made him feel happy and connected.
One morning, the Sun peeked in as usual. The young man was very, very sleepy. The Sun shone gently on his face and told him its most beautiful story yet, about a peaceful, wonderful place filled with soft light and quiet joy. The young man listened with a soft smile and then, he closed his eyes and rested.
The Sun knew its friend was at peace.
And the Sun? Well, it kept on shining. It still travels all around the world every single day, peeking into windows, warming faces, and silently sharing its amazing stories with anyone who takes a moment to feel its golden glow. Maybe, if you look carefully, it's telling you a story right now.
