The Fisherman and the Flute
Aesop's Fables
Down by the big blue ocean, where the seagulls soared and the waves gently kissed the sand, lived a fisherman named Finn. Finn loved music. One sunny morning, he had a brilliant idea. "I know!" he thought. "I'll play my flute, and all the fish will hear my beautiful music and dance right out of the water and into my basket!"
So, Finn sat on a smooth, grey rock. He took out his shiny flute and began to play the sweetest tunes. He played happy songs and sleepy songs. He played fast songs and slow songs. He peeked into the clear water. But the fish? They just kept swimming, wiggling their tails, and blowing tiny bubbles. Not a single fish danced out.
Finn scratched his head. "Hmm, that's strange," he mumbled. "My music is so lovely!" He tried again, playing even louder. Still, the fish just swam by, minding their own fishy business.
Then, Finn remembered something else he had – his big fishing net! "Oh, right!" he said. He put down his flute, picked up his net, and with a big swoosh, he cast it into the water. He waited a moment, then pulled it back in. Splash! The net was full of shiny, wriggling fish!
As the fish flopped and jumped on the shore, Finn looked at them and chuckled. "You silly fish!" he said, not unkindly. "You didn't want to dance when I played my lovely music for you. But now that I've caught you with my net, you're dancing all over the place!"
