• God's Animals and the Devil's Animals

    Grimm's Fairy Tales
It all started when the world was shiny and new. God, with a big, happy smile, decided to fill it with wonderful creatures. He made graceful deer that leaped through forests, strong horses that galloped across plains, and fluffy sheep that nibbled on green grass. All His animals were beautiful and lived happily.

Now, the Devil was watching all this. He squinted his eyes and thought, "Hmm, I can do that too!" So, he tried his best. He huffed and he puffed, and out popped... goats! But these goats were a little different. The Devil, thinking more is better, gave them extra long, bushy tails. He thought they looked very grand.

The goats, happy to be alive, trotted off to find some tasty leaves. But oh dear! Their super long tails kept getting caught in thorny bushes and tangled in brambles. "Baa! Baa! Help!" they cried, yanking and pulling, but their tails just got more stuck.

The Devil heard them and stomped his foot. "My creations are stuck!" he grumbled. He tried to untangle them, but it was no use.

So, the Devil went to God. "Your animals are all prancing around perfectly," he complained. "But my poor goats are always getting their tails tangled! It’s not fair! You have to help them."

God, who knew everything, just smiled a little. "Alright," He said. "I can help your goats. But know this: these animals of yours will be a bit special. Some will be good and gentle, and they will go to a happy place when their time is done. Others might be naughty and cause trouble, and they will have to learn their lesson."

The Devil didn't really listen to all that. He just wanted his goats unstuck. So, he rushed back to the goats. And because he wasn't very patient, he just bit off all their long tails! Snap! Snap! Snap!

And that's why, even today, goats have short, stumpy little tails. They could finally run and play without getting stuck!

A little later, God decided He needed some helpers to look after the wild places. So, He created wolves and said, "These are my dogs." They were strong and swift.

Soon, the Devil came running back to God, looking very cross. "Your dogs!" he shouted at God. "Your wolves are eating my goats! The ones with the short tails! It's not right!"

God looked at the Devil calmly. "Well," He said, "just like your goats, my wolves will also have to answer for what they do. They can't just gobble up everything without a thought. Everyone has to be fair, and they too will be judged for their actions one day."

And so, the world continued, with all sorts of animals, each with their own little story.
