Venus and the Goddess of Beauty
Roman Mythology
Okay, here is the story:
One sunny morning, high up on Mount Olympus, where the gods and goddesses lived, something funny happened. Venus, the goddess of all things lovely and beautiful, was playing with her son, Cupid. Cupid had a tiny bow and arrows. If his arrow pricked you, poof! You'd fall in love with the first person you saw.
Oops! As Cupid was flying around, one of his little arrows accidentally scratched Venus. Just then, Venus looked down from the clouds and saw a young man named Adonis. He was super handsome and loved to hunt in the forest.
Because of Cupid's arrow, Venus thought Adonis was the most wonderful person she had ever seen! She floated down to meet him.
Venus and Adonis became great friends. She loved spending time with him. She would tell him stories and laugh at his jokes. But Venus was also a little worried. "Adonis, my dear," she'd say, "please be careful when you hunt. Stay away from the big, fierce animals like lions and wild boars. They can be very dangerous!"
Adonis would smile and say, "Don't worry, Venus! I'm a brave hunter!"
One day, Venus had to go away for a little while. Before she left, she reminded Adonis again, "Please, please be careful!"
But Adonis, feeling extra brave that day, decided to hunt a giant wild boar he had seen. The boar was very strong and very angry. It charged at Adonis, and oh dear, it hurt him very badly with its sharp tusks.
When Venus returned, she heard the sad news. Her heart felt like it would break. She rushed to Adonis and cried. Her tears mixed with his blood on the ground.
And right there, where his blood had fallen, a beautiful red flower sprang up. It was called an anemone.
Venus knew she would always miss Adonis. But every time she saw an anemone flower, she would remember her brave, handsome friend, and the special time they had together.
