The Lion, the Donkey, and the Fox Hunting
Aesop's Fables
It was a perfect day for an adventure! King Leo the Lion woke up feeling hungry. "Hunting is more fun with friends!" he thought. So, he called for Danny the Donkey and Sly the Fox. "Let's go hunting!" roared Leo. Danny and Sly agreed, and off they went into the forest.
They worked together and caught lots and lots of yummy food. There were berries, some tasty roots, and even a few plump birds.
"Alright team," boomed Leo, "great job! Danny, you're good at counting. Please divide our food."
Danny the Donkey carefully made three piles, all exactly the same size. "One for you, Leo, one for Sly, and one for me!" he brayed happily, very proud of his fair work.
Leo the Lion frowned. His tummy rumbled. "Only *one* pile for the King?" he growled. And with a mighty ROAR, he pounced on poor Danny. Oh dear, that was the end of Danny.
Leo turned to Sly the Fox. "Sly," he said, his voice a low rumble, "now *you* divide the food."
Sly the Fox had watched everything. He was a very clever fox and didn't want to end up like Danny. Quickly, Sly pushed almost *all* the food into one giant pile. He left only a tiny, tiny bit for himself, just a little nibble.
"There you go, King Leo," said Sly, bowing low. "This big pile is for you, and this little bit is for me."
Leo the Lion smiled. It was a very big, toothy smile. "Sly, you are so wise! This is a perfect division! Tell me, who taught you to divide things so cleverly?"
Sly the Fox looked over at where Danny the Donkey had been. "I learned it from the donkey, your Majesty," he said quietly.
