• The Bat, the Bramble, and the Seagull

    Aesop's Fables
One bright, breezy morning, a Bat, a spiky Bramble Bush, and a sleek Seagull decided they were going to be business partners. "Let's make lots of money!" chirped the Bat.

The Bat, who didn't have much cash, borrowed a big bag of coins. "I'll invest this!" he announced proudly.
The Bramble Bush rustled its leaves. "I have lots of fine, soft wool. We can sell that!" it said, offering up its best fluffy bits.
The Seagull, who loved shiny things, brought a pile of gleaming copper. "This will be perfect for trading!" he squawked.

So, they loaded all their treasures onto a little boat and set sail across the big blue sea. They were very excited, dreaming of all the wonderful things they would buy with their profits.

But oh dear! A huge, dark cloud rolled in, and a wild storm began to rage. The wind howled, the waves crashed, and their little boat tossed and turned. Before they knew it, SPLOOSH! The boat sank, taking all their precious goods – the coins, the wool, and the copper – down to the bottom of the sea.

The three friends managed to swim to shore, wet and very sad. Everything was lost.

And that, some people say, is why things are the way they are now.

The Bat, ashamed that he had lost all the borrowed money, started to fly only at night. He didn't want to meet anyone he owed money to in the bright daylight.

The Bramble Bush, still trying to get back its lost wool, now reaches out and snags the clothes of anyone who passes by, hoping to find some of its soft fabric.

And the Seagull? Well, the Seagull spends its days flying over the sea, constantly diving down into the water. It's still searching, always searching, for that lost pile of shiny copper.
