• The Lion, the Fox, and the Donkey

    Aesop's Fables
One sunny morning, a rather grand Lion with a fluffy mane decided he was hungry. He called over his friend, a clever Fox with a bushy tail, and a sturdy Donkey with long, floppy ears. "Let's go hunting!" roared the Lion.

So off they went. They worked together and soon, they had a big pile of tasty food.
"Alright," said the Lion, puffing out his chest. "Donkey, you seem like a fair fellow. Please divide our catch."

The Donkey, trying his best, carefully made three piles, all exactly the same size. "There!" he said proudly. "One for you, Lion, one for you, Fox, and one for me!"

The Lion's eyes went wide. Then he let out a HUGE ROAR! He was not happy at all. In a flash, the poor Donkey was gone, and the Lion was even hungrier.

"Now, Fox," rumbled the Lion, "you try dividing the food."

The Fox, who was very smart and had seen what happened to the Donkey, quickly got to work. He pushed almost all the food into one giant pile for the Lion. For himself, he left only a tiny, tiny bit – just a nibble, really.

"My, my, Fox!" said the Lion, looking very pleased. "That's a perfect way to divide things! Who taught you to be so wise and fair?"

The Fox, trying to look brave, pointed a paw towards where the Donkey used to be. "I learned it from the Donkey, your Majesty," he said quietly.
